Training Opportunities

All children deserve to be safe – at home and in the community. Each of us has a responsibility to ensure that all children have safe, nurturing relationships and environments and to learn how to recognize and respond to concerns about abuse or neglect. Pat’s Place offers a variety of educational opportunities to prepare for this responsibility. Groups of all kinds may request training, including educators, parents, youth serving organizations, communities of faith, and other concerned citizens. Training listed below are free of charge. Select trainings available in Spanish.

Protecting Children Virtual Training

Online training about recognizing and responding to child abuse. This pre-recorded training video is designed for parents, youth-serving organizations, professionals working with children, and concerned citizens who want to learn how to protect children. At the conclusion of the training, participants will take a brief, 5-question quiz to receive their personalized training certificate. 35 minutes.

Child Abuse and Response

An overview of the different types of child maltreatment, signs and symptoms of child maltreatment, appropriate response to suspicion or disclosure of abuse, NC mandatory reporting laws, and strategies to keep kids safe. 60 minutes.

Darkness to Light's Stewards of Children® (SOC)

Nationally recognized, evidence-informed training proven to increase knowledge of child sexual abuse and change child protective behaviors using five simple steps. Training is 2 hours and CEUs may be available.

Human Trafficking

An overview of human trafficking and exploitation in its various forms and covers information about statistics, common myths, risk factors, red flags, reporting, and how to be a part of the solution. 60 minutes.

Trauma-Informed Care

Training focused on implementing trauma-informed practices in agencies, schools, and other youth serving organizations. Topics include identifying different types of trauma, the impact of trauma, and how to ensure practices, language and policies consider the impact trauma may have on those receiving services and interventions.

Online Safety

Provides a high-level overview of sexual abuse and sex trafficking, and includes strategies for protecting children and adolescents while they utilize the internet/social media. 60 minutes.

Talking to Children about Body Safety and Sexual Abuse

Starting a dialogue with children is the number one form of child abuse prevention. But when should you begin these important conversations and how should you even start? This presentation will provide helpful tips and hints for family members looking to start (or continue) this dialogue with kids. 30 minutes.
