Child Advocacy Centers (CAC's) make the child a priority and have proven results
- There are 23 accredited CAC's in North Carolina that provide unduplicated services to 53 counties.
- In 2009, North Carolina CAC's investigated 4,649 new child abuse cases. 74% of the cases involved sexual abuse.
- 5,811 abused children received unduplicated services from North Carolina CAC's in 2009.
- 87% of children who have received services at a CAC have reported reduced trauma symptoms.
- 87% of non-offending caregivers report they are better able to support and protect their child after receiving services at a CAC.
The community at-large benefits financially from the work done by child advocacy centers, as well as from the prevention and awareness services provided
- North Carolina CAC's have a $6,250,000 impact on the North Carolina economy every year.
- On average, CAC investigations cost 36% less than traditional investigations that do not utilize a CAC.
- For every $1 of funding received by the state, North Carolina CAC's raise an average of $16 from other funding sources. State funding represents only 6% of all CAC's total operating budgets.
- Over 18,000 children participated in child abuse prevention programs conducted by state CAC's.
